Ballechin 15 Years Old

Ballechin exists in two forms, with Edradour producing a heavily peated distillate since 2002 in homage to this lost distillery, much like Springbank has done for Hazelburn and Longrow. The original Ballechin was established in 1810 as a small farm distillery that came to a sudden end in 1927 when William Rose had no choice but to close the distillery. As its water source was diverted and with no water, there’s no distilling and certainly no whisky. The distillery buildings still stand but have fallen into disrepair and are slowly being reclaimed by nature. When in operation, it shipped whisky to merchants as far away as Glasgow and Edinburgh. During its existence it one of seven distilleries in the region with only Edradour still remaining to this day. The nearest most of us will get to Ballechin today is thanks to the whisky produced at Edradour.
